Update on Djibouti. the French base is next door to the civil side, and when I worked there in 2008/9 had Mirage and Atlantique based there. The civil side frequently hosted An124, with three frequently on the ramp. Notable was the daily Qat flight from Addis, bringing in the bales of Qat - the distribution of this had to be seen to be believed but it was mega efficient. Various russian aircraft made regular visits of course, including UN An72s, IL-18 to / from Somalia and Eritrea. Other visitors included the Astraeus Airlines Iron Maiden liveried 757.
Opposite the civil terminal is the American camp, with C130 and various helis based, plus numerous visitors, including the P3 on many occasions. This is the only American base in Africa, and was also home to various SF aircraft.
