having attended a quiz tonight hosted by Paul Jackson of the Priory Farm Aviators, one of the questions was 'How long is the longest taxiway?'

The answer was The Aviastar Factory at Ulyanovsk, Russia.

Images thanks to Google Earth.

Overview

Factory Site highlighted in Red, airfield can be clearly seen on the right

Taxiway highlighted in Yellow

The total distance at the furthest is 11.2 miles. Now that is some distance to taxi for take off!

One that I endured many times was at Dhahran International Airport in Saudi Arabia aka king Abdulaziz Air Base (KAAB).

When the civil runway was under repair commercial airlines had to share the military runway which, when taking off to the north or landing to the south gave a taxiway journey of around 7 kms.

Runway 18 Right/36 Left at Amsterdam is an awful long way from the terminal. In fact I don't think they use 18R for departures as it would require a backtrack. The runway is known as the Polderbaan and all the Schipol strips have names as well as designators to avoid confusion for vehicle drivers on the radio wanting to enter or cross runways. Imagine having six runways with 12 different designators, including a 36 Right, a 36 Central and 36 Left.. Errgh!

Good job Concorde didn't use these sites. I have it on good authority that if it didn't take off within 20 minutes from starting engines, it would have to refuel.
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite .

I believe Concordes were given unusual priority at the relatively few airports they used for regular services. Even JFK!

Wasn't there once a taxiway linking St Athan to the very dispersed dispersals at Llandow ...about 5km or 3 miles-odd? Or am I thinking of somewhere else (in the UK).

There was and I there is a thread on it. The proposed taxiway from Thurleigh to Twinwood or Little Staughton also sprang to mind.

Certainly the case when operating out of Terminal 4 at Heathrow in the 1980's.

11.2 miles is really a very long way. ( Its approximately M4 jnct 4 (Heathrow) to Jnct 8 at Maidenhead)

That plant makes the An124, IL 476, and the TU204 family of aircraft.

I have driven the taxiway from Stavanger Forus to Stavanger Sola which seemed a long distance but is a mere 2.2miles.
