Yes its odd is it not that copyright of a 1939 Crown copyright photo is copyrighted 2008 RAF Museum. How can this be right? Crown Copyright is for 50 years ONLY, it does not start again in 2008! If we have a copy dated 2007 does this mean its out of copyright?

Crown copyright lasts for 50 years from publication date or for 125 years for unpublished works. If this picture first saw the light of day (was published) in 2008, even if it had been taken in 1939, then the crown copyright clock would start ticking from 2008.

Or at least that's how I understand it.

It's interesting though that the photograph is listed as RAF Museum copyright and not crown copyright!
