Another topic I thought I had started a few years back but failed to find via search!

The 29OTU ORB shows that the 400 yards range for Bruntingthorpe was sited at Laughton about 4 miles to the east of the airfield. I don't know if this was a harmonisation range or a ground training range. I suspect the latter. I did have a list of offsite 400 yard ranges but I may have posted them a few years ago as part of another topic. Once I find it I will add the list here or move/copy from the original thread if I locate it.

Certainly a ground defence training range and probably a military (Army) range used by the station as required and not owned by them. The on-station 25 yard range catered for most small arms periodic qualification training.

Harmonisation of aircraft guns for all practical operational distances could be achieved by adjusting the pattern of the sight and gun 'spots' on a harmonisation (boresighting) board erected in front of the aircraft usually at 1000 inches. (Radians/Mils)

The 400 yard range for Wellesbourne Mountford was at Wedgnock just north of Warwick. The location is still in use as a firing range.
