Hi all,

I looked at the list of Bombing and Gunnery Ranges with great interest. I was quite taken surprised that there were as many as 40 of them listed in Lincolnshire - must have added a bit of extra spice to air traffic management in the war!

I do have a quick question - the list includes acronyms to describe the function of each and while I can guess a few I would be glad if someone can post what they stand for (or point me to where the info is already displayed if I am missing something obvious!)

Thanks

ATGR : Air to Ground RP (Rocket Projectile)

This type has a larger safety trace and some could also be used for guns and in some cases simultaneous gun/RP, especially Coastal Command versions as this was used in anti-flak ship attacks.
The list is a bit out of date now as there are quite a few additions to be made and it now includes over 500 ranges of all types. As this is part of an ongoing project the list will be updated at some point.

Thanks both. I haven't been able to give much time to things historical for the past 18 months due to work commitments. In the interim there has been an amazing amount of work going into these lists on AIX. I envy your knowledge!
