Adventurers Fen in Cambridgeshire was once planned to be a bombing range and in 1940 was listed as "under construction awaiting approval" (AIR 2/5050). It was intended to be used by No.2 Group RAF and is now part of the Wicken Fen Nature Reserve. This grid reference is for location purposes only and does not represent any known location - TL 557 699. The visitor centre there is named after William Thorpe who prevented the land from being drained and is also believed to have been instrumental in stopping the bombing range being completed. Although records show it as under construction in 1940 it is not clear if this was the case and may have reflected the position at that time according to a planned timetable.

Ironically on 5th September 1947 6217 BD Flight defused a British 500lb GP bomb on the Fen (or near it?) but this may have been a bomb jettisoned in the area.
