South of Orange on the N7. a newish roundabout with a Dassault Mirage III 5-OM in flying pose with the station badge on both the aircraft and the roundabout

The airfield of Base Aérienne 115 is to the North East

When you look on Google Maps satelite view, the base is pixelated, something which was common for european miilitary airfields during the cold war but which I thought had been discontinued

The next roundabouth north has a typically french, large 8 wheeled armoured car with a long gun in the centre of it, presumably associated with the now abandoned site to its south. Lots of military land in this area

The aircraft has been modified and painted to represent a Mirage III of Escadron 2/5 who operated the type between 1966-1975 and currently based at nearby Base Aérienne 115 Orange-Caritat, where they fly Mirage 2000s

I think the major external difference between the two types is the shape/length of the nose. Amusing, given the number of Mirage III's that the French bulit, that they had to import a slightly different model which had been built in Belgium...

The "84" refers to the French Department number for Vacluse

They have done a nice job of it. There seem to be a number of similarly adorned roundabouts around France, a bit more imaginative than simply displaying an aircraft on its undercarriage
