On my first tour I was off nights during the airshow, and Union of South Africa kept waking me up with its whistle.

And origianlly Union of South Africa was going to be called Osprey, and for a short while in the late eighties it was called that. Yes it was the PC brigade!

Being pedantic that isnt the old tower. There was one before that one, it was stuck on the top of one of the hangars.

It was on hangar 56 which was demolished to make way for the building that became supply HQ, tech stores, R & D ramp and a workshop area facing the airfield which belonged to GEF ; In front of it was a long wooden hut - one room had a bay window which had been a watch office I believe. We occupied this hut as MEGS & GEF HQs until about 1993 when it was demolished. Afraid the picture is not very good.

Just when I see those last two pictures of mothminors it just makes me a little upset inside, just can't still believe the RAF have gone after all these Years, still miss the Airshows unfortunately the Army Days just don't seem the same to me.

The airshow was a pain, one of the senior officers tried to bin it about 20 years ago. And I think that there are problems with the runway and thats why the fast jets were moved.
