Would I be right in thinking this is the course of a former rail spur into Kelmarsh?

That is correct. There were two full length spurs and a third slighlty shorter on the inside of the curve.

It might be worth taking a look at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html as they have a good map from 1971 showing all the details. That was where I checked the sidings.

Yes, one of the Oil and Pipeline Agency's depots. Presumably a relay storage on an active pipeline.

there is another map overlay that I did to work out the relationship between the lost kelmarsh station (which i assumed was the pub) and the later works here
