ARGL has been informed by Urban and Civic that their demolition program has been brought forward and we have therefore been asked to vacate our current facility in Building 534 by the end of May.

Urban and Civic have very generously allowed us to occupy a large room in Building 519 which has all the necessary facilities that were lacking in our present building (heating, security, fire alarm, cctv, wireless broadband, toilets, kitchen with food machines, electric and drinking water etc.)

Obviously the time-frame for the relocation is quite short and we need to get cracking, although a start has been made. Please watch this space for working days or part days, and if anyone is available to assist please let us know ASAP.

The first working day will be this Friday, 5 May 2017, please indicate on here whether you intend to turn up. Thanks.

The new, new, new Archive and Heritage Facility, formerly the waiting room and cafe for the Air Transport Terminal section of the late 1980s Base Operations Facility.

Looks like a step up from the present quarters, good luck with the move. I am trying to picture where 519 is but have drawn a blank.

Work commitments do prevent me assisting on this occasion. As a very much an "armchair member", I admire the hard work and effort that goes into this project and wish I was in a position to be more proactive. Best of luck with the move to those directly involved.

Some good progress made today, my thanks to Andy and Ian for coming along to assist.
We were able to get the main archive cabinets dismantled, moved across to 519, rebuilt and all the archive boxes (previously brought over by PF) put back in place.
The main archive computer has also been relocated and is up and running, but sadly one of the two office desks didn't survive the journey.

On a more frustrating note, the vending machine ran out of coffee by the end of the day, presenting me with a steaming cup of hot frothy milk with sugar... ;)

Building 519 location:

The dashed route is longer but avoids a number of rather nasty HGV-spec speed bumps.

Please note the bridge over the A604(M) A14-A1 spur outside the site will be closed to all traffic for the next two weekends.

I may sought out and put away all of the slides, photos and aperture cards on Tuesday, in the built-in cupboard. Amongst other shifting of material from 534 to 519.
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

I've booked next week off as leave, so will be up at the Archive every day from about 10.00 onwards.

And the vending machine is out of coffee again...

Thank you to Al and Ian for attending today.
Between us we managed to get a bit more moved over, including one of the five plan chests.

However, unless we get a LOT more people turning up, and larger vehicles (estate cars/vans/etc.) there seems to be no way we can complete the move in time.
