It's been another busy week for the Archive, despite me not actually being there that much...

A package arrived from the States sent by Al Chapin, who was stationed at Alconbury in the 1960s.
Al generously donated this great Alconbury Rod & Gun Club beer stein from 1968, which is now proudly on show in the main display cabinet.

Thanks again Al. :)

Also included were these great shirts and stickers Al's designed and produced.
The two designs cover the 10th Tac Recon Wing's primary aircraft types, the RB-66 Destroyer (1956-65) and the RF-4C Phantom II (1965-87).
Al has a few items remaining, and if there's enough interest will be doing another production run. Please drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch.

The heritage outreach program between the Archive and the active side of the base continues to grow.

I've been invited to address a meeting of the various commanding officers within the 501st Wing on the history and heritage of their bases as part of their forthcoming leadership conference.

I was also asked if we could put on an Alconbury Heritage display in the refurbished Base Library next door, ready for it's reopening next month.

Here's the result, prior to labelling of the items.

10th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing items on the next:

10th Tactical Fighter Wing further down:

And finally some general RAF Alconbury bumf from the 1950s to the 1990s:

The plan is to rotate different items from the main displays in the Archive through the display case on base on a regular basis.
That way stationed personnel and their families get a better opportunity to see them and learn more about the history of RAF Alconbury over the years.

Very nice Paul. I assume the labelling will include an 'As presented by ARG' type notice as well?

Also, are you able to use your contacts to get a pile of our nice new leaflets strategically located?

2: Yes, a nice big bundle of them is already over there, with another bundle to go into the Education Center. :)

Excellent work Paul. The above photos convey a real sense of professionalism.
Plan A is always more effective when the problem you are working on understands that Plan B will involve the use of dynamite .

The base librarian has sent in this set of photos showing the completed display with appropriate labels added.

I was present for the library's grand reopening, and the display got a lot of interest from visitors.
At one point it was completely surrounded by a gaggle of viewing Majors and Lt. Colonels. ;)
