Has anyone come across a decent piece of video editing software that allows you to crop video to a selected aspect ratio?
We have a lot of mobile phone video that is taken in portrait and therefore looks completely stupid when joined to a widescreen format. Since two thirds of the mobile video is wasted, due mostly to large amounts of sky, this could easily be cropped to a more landscape format.
I have found I still have Windows Movie Maker - a result of two operating system upgrades - and this is great for editing but has no cropping feature. I have looked online but I was hoping that someone has found one that actually works without the steep learning curve of something that Adobe makes. It also needs to be relatively cheap as it won't be required all that often.
I won't use online ones as there must be some catch and they tend not to work when you have not internet.
Solved the problem - I went for Movavi as it was on special offer. It does a very good and quick job but I keep forgetting to select a lower quality as the resulting cropped and shortened videos are coming out much larger than the original. I am sticking to MP4 format so maybe that is the problem.
I have also managed to crop and save down my 3 minute dash cam footage just to show the bits of interest. Good job as the 10 3 minute clips took up 6Gb!!! At least these do come out smaller as the original MOV file sizes are just ludicrous. No idea why as the smaller files look exactly the same even when enlarged still its Apple isn't it?
