Gaydon was my first posting as a graduate RAF Apprentice in March 1959. I knew the area very well from weekend motor bike ridex and would pass the monument frequently but with little interest. Visiting the then CAD from Gaydon in 1960 on a work related mateer our small group was shown the original monument.

So we had a civil war to get rid of the monarchy and 11 years after the execution of Charles I we got the monarchy back!

But as Cromwell once said "England without a King is unthinkable!"

The annual service & re-enactment to commemorate the battle of Edgehill by The Sealed Knot is on 23/10/16, thanks to the Royal Logistics Corps & DM Kineton.
