Jason have a word with RAFM Cosford. I will do the same, perhaps it could be moved there! Thats assuming off course that its life at Binbrook is not sustainable (but it might be).

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

The only part of the Q Shed that could be shifted is the 'hangar' part only, not the attached brick 'accommodation' building.

The plan is to recover all of the site in situ.

As to sustaining the building in total, without help and a generous offer/behaviour of the land owner, I feel a long up high struggle is in order.

Also, the other 'heritage interests' on the airfield, need to work together for the common cause and put aside all hidden agendas, as a united stand is more profitable for all!

I forgot to ask, does any member have plans of the old Q Site?

IIRC the last Q launch from Binbrook was more than likely late 1987, before 5 Sqdn disbanded on 31 December 1987. According to my notes, I did not do Q during January 1988 to March 1988. As 11 Sdqn disbanded on 01 April 1988, that doesn't mean we were not on Q during those months. Just that I was not the roster to do it!

The last aircraft movement (not including Lightnings) was in 1999, when Global Aviation departed after they finished re-spraying the last Jet Provost. This work was completed from the Q Shed.

The last LIGHTNING movement was on 23 July 1992, when XR724 flew into Binbrook.

The movement books and logs from Switchboard, Approach and Local were found in bins outside the tower!

Quite a few have ended up on Ebay believe it or not. As we know, they were only restricted. I have been told and I have seen said objects that nearly all bits and pieces were left in situ and people just collected them!

Major items were obviously removed, those deemed V&A were too. When I went back during the filming of Memphis Belle, the tower (VCR) was still complete, but approach was stripped.

I suppose some of the kit was left for its use as Scamptons RLG.

Hi Jason, as I mentioned above, according to my notes I was not rostered to do Q, Jan - Mar '88.

As Canberra asked, was 11 scrambled during the dying 3 months?
