Memorial Painting and plaque in on of the town's churches remembers Sgt D. Winch MIA on 12/01/45

He was RG on IX Sqn Lancaster NG257 WS-N, that had departed Bardney at 0848 for Ops Bergen (U-Boat Pens) carrying a “Tallboy”

Over the target area, the aircraft was intercepted by three Fw 190’s hit and shot down. Witnesses in a nearby Lancaster saw the aircraft (with two engines on fire) crash into the sea

All seven crew were killed. They have no known grave are therefore commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey
