A memorial plaque is being unveiled in Pinner, Middlesex on 25th September in memory of S/L Brian Lane DFC, a Spitfire pilot who died in WW2.

The BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane are to fly over during the unveiling. The following is a copy of the item to be found on the web site www.pinnerassociation.co.uk (News item)

A memorial plaque to Brian Lane, a Spitfire pilot from Pinner who was lost in action over the North Sea during WWII, is to be unveiled on Sunday 25th September on his former home in Barrow Point Avenue. He was only 25 at the time of his death and had risen to the rank of Squadron Leader. His exploits and experiences are recounted in a volume titled ’Spitfire’. Brian was one of only a few pilots to write a contemporaneous account of what it was like to fly Spitfires over Dunkirk and during the Battle of Britain. His book was first published in 1941 under the pseudonym B.J. Ellan and was understandably heavily censored at the time. It has recently been re-published and decoded by historian Dilip Sarkar MBE.

Brian was photographed in what is arguably one of the most powerful images of a fighter pilot in WWII. The following photo shows him just back from a sortie: the strain and fatigue on his face is self evident.

I took these this morning at 10.15am. Wished that I could have got there a bit earlier due to the position of the Sun Always next time.

Found this a while ago clearing out a cupboard. Forgot all about it, just glad that it's not too tatty. At least it's not ripped.
