Inscription on rear of church pew in one of the towns churches remembers Sgt E.W. RG Ireland 218 Sqn 10/10/41

He was RG on 218 Sqn Wellington X9677 HA-V that had departed Marham at 2151 for Ops Bordeaux

On its return, the aircraft crashed into the English Channel off St. Albans Head on the Dorset coast.

Three of the six man crew were killed (including Sgt Ireland) and have no known grave, They are therefore are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey
