1946? Was that an extension or a repair? Not many extensions going on in 1946 I would have thought.

I wondered that - I suspect that is just a bit of patching since the major works services carried out after the war was the upgrading of the airfield lighting, runway shouldering, PAPI and Barrier installation ca. 1960 - 62

The best place for graffiti is in the old Fire Tender Shed and the NFE store

There was quite a bit of grafitti scratched in the brick of the Fire Tender Shed. Dating between 1941 to the early 1960s. Additionally in the NFE store there were a few scribblings, I took to denote the layout of goose-neck and funnel flares from the war. My particular favourite was in the AMWD building, long since demolished. In what looked like a crew / orderly room there was the remains of a small blackboard with various Works Service Tasks. Once completed these were struck through with a single chalk line. The final one required that three threshold lights be changed on RW 34. The date for this work was slated as 23 Dec 1969. The final three 2FTS aircraft left Syerston the previous day. The task remained un-struck, undone with only this entry in the "Remarks" column.

It simply read "WHY?"

Amazing avenues of trees remaining 1991. Although probably beyond their best, they were a wonderful sight.
