Contact the CLO/CRO at Cottesmore, I seem to remember there being one hanging in the entrance to the education centre when I was there in the early 80's. Its probably in the station history room now.

Cottesmore was not supposed to close in 76, it was placed on C&M 76-78 in the knowledge that TTTE was to be FORMED here in 79/80. TGSS formed initially in Oct 79, TTTE formed Jul 80 with arrival of their first aircraft. My father-in-law was posted to here from Manby, after it closed in 74, until his demob in Nov 78, and oversaw a lot of the works in progress, runway resurfacing, D hanger conversion, new flightline/hardstanding etc etc.

The following is a note added to an article written by ACM Sir Christopher Foxley-Norris, GCB, OBE, DSO, MA, RAF Rtd in 1976 entitled 'The Royal Air Force and the Defence Situation Today':-

The RAF plans to acquire 220 Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) aircraft to replace Vulcans and Buccaneers, with initial deliveries to a tri-national OCU at COTTESMORE IN 1979.

Ahhh! The TTTE!! Much as i love the Harrier, i really do miss the sight and sound of the Tornados thundering across the east Leicestershire countryside.
I also really miss the brilliant TTTE Community Day Airshows they held every June. It must have been one of the best 'invite only RAF families day' type airshows in the country at the time! The three ship Tri-National Tornado 'Blade formation' team were amazing year after year!! They even had USAF B1.B's, B.52's, Combat Talons and the Italian Frecce Tricolori etc at those shows!!!..and all completely free of charge providing you could blag a ticket!! Hard to imagine at any RAF Familys/Community Day nowadays sadly.

Cheers,
Steve

Ah yes, I remember those days well.
Attending the training.
Then being posted .
Then being sent on my dual fitters course.
The days of the
Tri-National Tonka :lol:Training Establishment.
A mixture of British (includes all of the British nationality's), the Germans and the Italians.
My last days in the RAF were spent at Cottesmore.
Best airshows I ever saw (apart from the Big Thunder at Bruntingthorpe that is).
