16 Regiment Royal Artillery are currently located at the formet RAF station, now called St George Barracks.

I doubt the site is used for munition disposal, I also doubt that the airfield is used as a live range since 16 Rgt operate Rapiers. A wiser soul will no doubt correct me

North Luffenham is used by the EOD unit at Wittering to practice its procedues, so they have dug craters on the airfield and put dummy bombs at the bottome so they can practice making weapons safe. There are also some aircraft so they can also practice making safe weapons on aircraft.

Nice pics.

Glad you guys found the Anti-Aircraft gun buried away in the undergrowth.
I can't believe none of us have come across it in the past the amount of times we've all visited the place lol! I only came across it last weekend on Easter sunday afternoon.
Thought we'd got this place 'covered'!

Saying that...any sign of the smashed up Whirlwind? Still haven't found that yet.

Cheers

Just echoing what Steve said above. A great day out with some great company.

I thought I'd do a bit of asking around before I went as I knew of the Whirlwind and I finally pinned down the location so it was great to see that. The Phantom was lovely to see as well.

Phantom

Hunter

Harrier

Control Tower

I'll not post my Whirlwind Pics as they are very similar to Steves above!

You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!
