Went here today 20/02/10
Had a breakfast in the old tower very recomended

The loss of the last turret trainer screen at Sleap is saddening, at least the framework and NP's photos survive.

Without being able to get up close, from the photos it looks like the hemisphere was supported on the same steel sections as for the smaller Nissen huts.

Oh dear that is sad to see, I think it started with one hole about 20 years ago, to this scene today.
You can tell a builder from an archaeologist by the size of his trowel. Mine is a small one!

It is in a very bad state now,there are holes all over the place,also the pond next to it is getting ever closer to the remains ,it looks like either horses or cattle use it as a haven , it should really be preserved

The screen itself may have gone but the framework is the only one left in the UK.

Im sure in the cafe within the control tower there is a large picture with the screen intact, well worth a visit, i had a chance to do aerobatics with one off the Sleap pilots, but after a full english and two pots of tea i declined for obvious reasons!!
