Ref, myself and a bus load of other aviation buffs visited Mildenhall today, we got a guided tour of the base which included a demonstration by the dog section, handling some of the guns, a lovely roast beef dinner in the original 1930s Officers Mess, then a visit to the 100th Air Refuelling Wing and finally the chance to fully access a KC135 Stratotanker

Here's only a snippet of the 222 pics i took.

And the Square D still flys with pride. Great pictures and what a great opportunity!

We were told it was the only USAF unit allowed to display any of its wartime heritage, and they are all proud of it as well.

Great opportunity - Yes, very much so, just a shame about the weather!!

Don't forget, not only do the KC-135's of 100 ARW still fly the "Square D", they also fly the badge of RAF Mildenhall itself. This must be unique and a link which really ought to be perpetuated. Good to see and cheers for posting.

Not of the best quality and a combination of general murk and viewing through perspex don't help. From Easter 1992.

Y'know, I have never looked! The pictures look much better on screen than they do as prints. They were filed away and forgotten for, gasp, 16 years.
