Airfield Research Group Ltd is entirely managed and run by volunteers who give their time willingly to help deliver our charitable objectives of educating the public about airfields and maintaining an archive of primary source documents, plans, artefacts, books, maps etc.

There is always more work to do and you can help us by giving your time and expertise, your money, or items for the archive for the benefit of others and later generations.

VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME

Archive

We have a massive archive comprising literally thousands of items of which only a small fraction has been properly catalogued. If you are a trained librarian, or if you are just keen and are willing to learn, and have some time to spare to assist with this interesting work, just contact us and we will get in touch with you.

Education

As an educational charity, we are very keen to take our knowledge out into the wider world and especially to younger people. We have already had requests from schools for talks and presentation material. We are looking especially for volunteers with teaching experience – is that you?

HELP US WITH MONEY

Donate now

Our single largest expense is improving and maintaining the archive. We have, for example, just spent £1,300 on very rare books and Parliamentary papers. Just by way of example, we need storage boxes (£10 each), steel racking and shelving, and a much improved computer (£1,000).

If you donate, please consider making a Gift Aid declaration – open to members and non-members alike; through the generosity of the Government, it increases the value to us of your donation by 25%. Download the gift aid form.

Bequests

Think of us in your Will. A bequest will cost you nothing now and can reduce your Inheritance Tax bill as bequests to charity are tax-free. There are different types of bequest: you bequeath a percentage of your estate so the value rises and is thus not eroded by inflation (Residuary Legacy); a specific sum of money – though this may be eroded by inflation over your life-time (Pecuniary Legacy); or an item such as a house, car, or shares (Specific Legacy). You can leave it to the Trustees on how to spend your bequest or you can specify a particular objective for the money (check with us first please to ensure we can honour your wish). For detailed advice on bequests and Inheritance Tax, please consult a financial adviser; the Charities Aid Foundation; or Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs.

HELP US WITH ARTEFACTS

Do you have any books, papers, pamphlets, drawings or indeed anything related to airfields or military history that you believe deserve a wider audience? You can donate them outright, make a long-term indefinite loan (but you still retain ownership title) or bequeath them in your estate – many executors may not recognise the importance of your collection!
