Lincolnshire Aviation in World War II ebook

Today Lincolnshire is often refered to as 'Bomber County'. Following the end of WWI the contraction of the RAF left Lincolnshire with very few airfields. With Europe striving for peace, little attention  was paid to military aviation in the county. However political events in Germany resulted in the expansion of the RAF. Due to the geographical location of the county, many new airfields were constructed throughout what was known as the Expansion Period between 1934-1939.

Following the outbreak of WWII, the construction programme accelerated as the RAF grew. Whilst the majority were bomber airfiedls, the county was also host to those of Fighter Command, Coastal Command and Flying Training, along with elements of the United States Army Air Force. This resulted in a total of 47 airfields by 1945. This book explains Lincolnshire's airfield build-up and development over 11 years of peace and war.
