I really hope they make an effort to keep it to scale. A childs approximation of a bomber is going to look dreadful. I can't look at the Angel of the North without thinking of a skittle with a plank glued on.

They do claim it will be full size.

I can see the problems could be designing to withstand high winds, just hope that engineers involved and not artists or architects! I wonder if illumination by simulated searchlight beams would work at night?

I do have doubts about yet another memorial,I think it may be superfluous, especially as the Bomber Command Centre has opened in Lincoln. The long overdue monument in London is now open together with the Runnymede Memorial plus many memorials in Cathedrals and Churches throughout the land...I think the money should be used for the welfare of the few remaining aircrew rather than enter into a race to see who can produce a regional/county "sculpture* of doubtful merit ...I fear we may end up with something akin to the so called " Angel of the North"........There seems to be a plethora of monument building at the moment,I have just seen a "memorial" to the "Blue Danube" Atomic Bomb, whatever next ?
Thank you.

Bomber County Gateway
www.bombergatewaytrust.co.uk/

Passing by last week the supports for the replica Lancaster now appear to be in place

I was looking at the planning application
planningonline.n-kesteven.gov.uk/online-...keyVal=P365P3LL00500

in particular the Design and access statement
planningonline.n-kesteven.gov.uk/online-...149_FUL--1439068.pdf

and note that they compare it to the Angel of the North
However it is also worth noting that unlike the Angel of the North, there will be no public access to the site, and no car park.
It is meant to be viewed from afar.....
